What's new

Sorry I am such a slacker!! Well here is a little about what has been going on. Mark will be starting school at the University of Utah this January. We are excited about that. He will be going to school full time and just working in the summer. He is going into mining engineering and I just think about how much math he is going to have to take and I just shutter. Ick math. Anyway I am excited because I am taking a woods class the next couple months and I just can not wait to get started on some fun projects. Sloan is getting so big. She didn't understand Christmas but it was fun anyway. Christmas morning she ran to the tree and grabbed Mark's mountain dew and when we took it away to give her one of her gifts, she had a little fit. Guess Mark got her hooked. Enjoy the pics.

Chasing Dreams

For those of you who know I have one year left until I can finally wash my hands of owning Salon Soiree. And I am starting to get that feeling of OH MY GOODNESS I WILL HAVE FREEDOM!! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO NEXT!?!?
Well a couple weeks ago I finally finished the shelf that I have been meaning to get done for a while now, and while talking to my husband I jokingly said, "I should do this for a living." He promptly and seriously looked at me and said,"Ya you should." I wasn't really expecting this answer and looked back at him a little shocked and asked if he was serious. He was. I have always enjoyed finishing furniture and since I have been married I have added piece after piece to my home.
Mark not knowing at the time had released a monster! Since speaking with him I have been researching and getting all my duckies in a row to start this new venture!! The best part is my little sisters boyfriend Josh is amazing at woodwork and has offered to teach me to do all my own projects!! I am so excited to get things started and see where this takes me.
I love a worn look. It adds character.

Knee Surgery

I tore my ACL about eight years ago and since getting it fixed it has not given me a lick of trouble....until a couple of months ago. I was playing soccer and was about to shoot the most amazing shot, world cup worthy!!! Then my knee popped out and made some wonderful crackling sounds. I instantly fell to the ground and began to crawl of the field. I was so scared that I had torn my ACL again, it was almost exactly what happened when I had torn it, so I thought for sure I was a goner. But after a few minutes I was walking around and feeling a bit better. Slowly my knee would bug me less and less but then I would do something and it would not feel right or start to hurt again so I decided to go get it checked. I ended up getting an MRI and my doctor told me I had tore my meniscus (which I also tore when I did my ACL). He told me that I really didn't need surgery if it didn't bother me that bad, but I felt like I am still active enough that I didn't want it to be a constant problem. So I was scheduled for surgery Monday the 19th and I am so so glad I did because we found out that it was worse than what the MRI showed. My meniscus not only tore but it was folded all up. But surgery went well and I should be back to my rotten old self in a couple weeks.

4th of July Madness!!!

After signing up for the Freedom Run 10k and trying to convince everyone I knew to run it with me, stupid me goes and tears my meniscus in my same stupid knee that I had my previous surgery on. But I was bound and determined to still run the damn race. And run I did, and hobble and maybe even swear a little under my breath...but I did it! And it was funny because they had these big markers counting how far we had gone and we all thought they were counting in kilometers. Well they were actually counting in miles so needless to say we got to the finish a lot sooner than we were expecting. Cute Paige crossed the finish line and when the girl asked if she could cut her timing chip off her shoe Paige responded by looking confused and said, "I am not sure I am suppose to be done..." It kind of snuck up on us. But we had a blast!! Then Mark surprised me by showing up at the finish line AND coming to the parade (he must really love me because he HATES parades). Then we had lunch at Grandma Mooney's and fireworks that night. I love the 4th of July!!!

Lake Powell

We had our first official family vacation with little Sloan. We had a blast! Growing up my family (on both my mom and my dad's sides of the family) would go to Lake Powell almost every year. I have so many great memories on that lake, memories that I hope my daughter will also get the chance to have. We had the perfect little cove that we camped in, with a couple little islands and some nearby cliffs to jump from. But the best part I captured on video :) Mark tubing. The reason this was my favorite part of the trip was not only did he get the tube to barrel roll, but you can hear my cute aunt just laughing her head off because Mark kept on tubing even when his pants were around his knees. Maybe it is my own fault he doesn't mind showing it off because I tell him that he has the cutest bottom. He does... Oh well, I guess others appreciate it too. Sloan was a doll the entire trip. She slept well and LOVED the water. Can't wait to go next year!!

CALIFORNIA!!

Our friends have created a tradition of going to California each summer for a week. We stay in the same beach house just a 5 minute walk away from Huntington Beach. It was a blast this year as usual. We HAD to go cheer the Mets on at Petco Park where they pulled out a win for us, and I had all the cotton candy I could handle :) We also got the chance to go to Disneyland, and yes if you were wondering at age 25 I still think it is the happiest place on earth! Although I was sad when I found out Indiana Jones would be closed. But we made it work anyway. We also went to the U.S.S. Midway Museum. It is an air craft carrier that they made into a museum. I actually really enjoyed it. The best part was I am the shortest person that went(surprise surprise) and walking around in all the tight living quarters didn't think a thing about how low the ceiling was. But I soon noticed that half the group kept bumping there heads on doorways and stairs ha ha it was hilarious!!! No wonder seamen were always so short!! But best of all is always sitting on the beach listening to the waves and soaking up some sun. Can't wait for next year!!!

SOLIDS

Not to be one of those parents who always says that their child is amazing but, my child is amazing. We gave her rice cereal today and she just gobbled it up. I just can't wait until she does the little bird move and has her mouth open and ready for the spoon. For those of you who know me I am a pretty picky eater, so Mark has informed me that I have to try everything that I feed to Sloan...and I am going to. This will be interesting and there will probably be a good amount of gagging. Wish me luck.

Snowboarding..not so bad.

Well I finally got the nerve up to go snowboarding again. For those of you who were unfortunate enough to experience my return after birthing a child you know why. But you would have been pleased to see me do much better, even attempting a jump or two. Our friend who is working up at Sundance invited us to go with him and since half of those who went had kids we decided to go night skiing in order to find babysitters (apparently Evie is not quite qualified to watch Sloan yet). Surprisingly the conditions were quite good. We had a blast and can not wait to go again!!

Well here it is folks...my attempt at blogging. Mark has said he will be posting now and then, but I have a feeling that like most of the other couple blogs I will be the soul contributor. But after listening to him mumbling obscenities under his breath while putting together the highchair, he is obviously full of surprises.
But, before this blog begins I must give warning...I am not the sweet little girl that everyone has once known me to be. Something has happened in the last few months of my life...that is right, I Kendra Smith have grown a backbone!!! And I now have opinions that for some reason my heart, mind and therefore mouth will not hold back. So if you dare take this journey into the lives of the Smith's...you may learn things about us that you never could have imagined!! So stay tuned because this might be fun.
